Thanksgiving 2009 at Lazarski

On November 24, 2009U.S. Economy and Transatlantic Relations Institute, Foreign Languages Department, Lazarski University in co-operation with the American Embassy in Warsaw organized  the celebration of Thanksgiving 2009 at Lazarski University.

Lecture: “The Rise of China: The Implications for US and EU“ of Professor Wing Thye Woo

On November 20, 2010 U.S. Economy and Transatlantic Relations Institute hosted Professor Wing Thye Woo, who conducted a lecture: “ The Rise of China: Implications for UE and U.S.” The lecture was organized in cooperation with U.S. Embassy in Warsaw.

Wing Thye Woo is Professor at University of California at Davis, Yangtze River Scholar at the Central University of Finance and Economics in Beijing. Simultaneously, Prof. Woo fulfills the responsibilities of Director of the East Asia Program within The Earth Institute at Columbia University. He is also a Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution.

His current research focuses on the economic issues of East Asia (particularly, China, Indonesia, and Malaysia), international financial architecture, comparative economic growth, state enterprise restructuring, fiscal management, and exchange rate economics.

Conference: Inauguration of the Obama administration – whither foreign policy?

The US Economy and Transatlantic Relations Institute took part in the conference “Inauguration of the Obama administration – whither foreign policy?”, held on January 19th, 2009, which was organized by The Polish Institute of International Affairs, Warsaw.
The conference was divided into two sessions – the first one, “With a little help from the allies? Towards a new opening in the transatlantic relations”, was focused on challenges which the transatlantic community is facing nowadays, and also on the problem of failed expectations in the transatlantic relations. The second session, “What is the new US policy towards the post-Soviet space?”, was an effort to answer the question whether the United States will be able to strike a balance between its national security necessities and a desired model of international order in the post-Soviet space? Will the US strive for confrontation with Russia, or rather for a kind of cooperation?
These and many other questions asked during the discussion on the raised issues were answered by the outstanding guests – Anthony M. Kolankiewicz (Political External Chief, Embassy of the United States of America, Warsaw); Dr Patrick Keller (Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation, Berlin); Dr Michal Koran (Institute of International Relations, Prague); Dr Marcin Zaborowski (European Union Institute for Security Studies, Paris); Andrew Kuchins (Center for Strategic and International Studies, Washington); Prof. Roman Kuźniar (Institute of International Relations, University of
Warsaw) and experts from the Polish Institute of International Affairs.

American Day in Lazarski School

On Nov. 25th 2008 Lazarski School hosted American Day organized by the American Economy and Transatlantic Relations Institute in cooperation with Lazarski School of Commerce and Law and American Embassy in Warsaw. The invited guests, including distinguished lecturers from both Polish and American Universities, representatives of American Embassy in Warsaw and independent economic experts, took part in a seminar which included lecturers and discussion panels. The seminar focused on the impact of the US Presidential election on transatlantic relations, and the repercussions of American financial crisis on Polish economy. Moreover, Lazarski School students had the opportunity to compete against each other in a quiz “What do you know about US?”. Finally, after the plenary session, the guests and students were invited to a traditional Thanksgiving feast.

Conference: The Fifth International Leaders Summit – The Future of Transatlantic Relations, Brussels, 2008

The representaives of US Economy and Transatlantic Relations Institute  participated  in the conference “The Future of Transatlantic Relations”, a part of “The Fifth International Leaders Summit”, which was  held on 12th and 13th of November 2008, in the European Parliament, Brussels. The schedule of events of “The Future of Transatlantic Relations” conference included panel discussions such as: “The Financial Crisis and The Way Forward”, “Independent Judiciary and Protection of Property Rights – How to effectively combat corruption?”, “Session on Security: New Cold War or What War?” The issues concerning benefits from regulation in the global economy and energy were  also covered. Besides the Members of the European Parliament, as co-hosts, the representatives of Adriatic Institute for Public Policy, Atlas Economic Research Foundation, Cato Institute, Competitive Enterprise Institute and The Heartland Institute and The Heritage Foundation  also took part in the meeting.
